We have a lot to celebrate this month. Congrats to our Graduates and good luck on your next steps. Happy Father’s Day to our awesome Dads. Happy 1st Day of Summer which starts June 21st. It’s June which means Hurricane Season has begun!

The season stretches from June 1st to November 30th. Ever since I was a kid, I loved seeing what names were picked for that year’s season. What names do you like this year? Let’s hope the OBX doesn’t have any visitors from the below list.

Some hurricane facts:

Where have most hurricanes hit? No surprise, Florida – I was surprised to hear they have had 125 hurricanes since the 1800’s with 40 classified as being major.

Biggest Hurricane in NC? Hazel in 1954 – it hit on the border of SC & NC

Highest Winds to ever hit NC? We had to go back 136 years to 1879 when winds clocked in at 138 mph at Cape Lookout in Beaufort.

Something Fun to Do This Summer

This is such a fun night out. The OBX Scalllywags, formerly known as the Outer Banks Dare Devils, are a premier collegiate summer baseball team. The Scallywags are comprised of some of the best college players from around the country. You are sure to run into a future MLB star.

It’s easy to catch a game with a schedule of 30 home games this season, played in Manteo at the Coy Tillett Senior Memorial Field at Manteo High School, 829 Wingina Avenue. Opening night is June 1st and games will be played through early August. GO SCALLYWAGS!

Since we celebrate “Donut Day” this month, here are the Best of the OBX

Duck Donuts – by now you all know this one. It started on the OBX and has since exploded throughout the country. I always love when I see someone post their excitement about a Duck Donuts opening in their town. They have 4 locations from Corolla to Kill Devil Hills.

Proof Bakery - A hidden gem in Kill Devil Hills. Serving donuts, croissants, pastries, cinnamon buns, bear claws, and the best homemade bread & rolls.

Tullio’s in Duck – just love this one and you better get there early. They have been in business for 25 plus years and we know why, “YUM”.

Donuts4You – located in Kitty Hawk, this one is a must try – THEY DELIVER from Southern Shores to Nags Head. Who wouldn’t want fresh delicious donuts showing up on your doorstep first thing in the morning.

Duck starts their seasonal “YOGA ON THE GREEN” 7:30 am every Tuesday (grass at the townhall)
