Best Kept Secret on the Outer Banks – Check it Out!

Have you been to the Salt Box CafĂ© for lunch or dinner (or Sunday brunch)?  Located in a small beach box down Colington Road they have quickly become an OBX favorite amongst locals.   The food is TOP CHEF quality.  Chef Randolph Sprinkle has a flare for serving the ultimate food experience. You will find a delicious Local Catch of the day served with roasted baby potatoes/ginger carrot puree / basil oil with crispy brussels sprouts or one of my favorites, Cajun Shrimp & Grits with andouille sausage, peppers, spinach & tomatoes. His wife Amanda adds her specialty homemade desserts to finish off your meal.   If you are going to be on the beach in 2022, make your reservations now.   Shoot me a text and let me know how you liked it! House Collapses In Rodanthe

A Coastal storm hit the OBX this month bringing with it high winds from the northeast with peak gusts at 45 to 55 mph.  Unfortunately, we lost a few oceanfront homes in Rodanthe.  I believe these homes are in one of the few higher-risk oceanfront areas on the OBX.

Hurricane Season Names are out and if you notice “ALEX” is #1.

Coming to town with the whole gang this Summer?

We have some of the best photographers on the OBX, why not schedule a beach photo shoot to capture your beautiful family. This has become very popular throughout the years, and it is something you will never regret doing.  Look at this happy family!

Southern Shores adopts NEW summer traffic rules!

If you remember last year, they implemented the “no left turn" from the Bypass onto Dogwood Trail.  This year, you will be able to make a left.  Taking that left has been very popular among our summer vacationers.  Google is telling them it will save time.  However, making that left this year will not give you an easier passage to Duck/Corolla.  They have a new plan this year, that will more than likely make you regret taking that “left hand turn at dogwood”.

The primary strategy being implemented this summer is to place barriers blocking one lane of traffic with “local traffic only” signs at several key intersections. Those intersections include Hillcrest and Sea Oats; Hickory and Wax Myrtle; Hickory and Sea Oats; Hickory and Hillcrest; E. Dogwood and Wax Myrtle; E. Dogwood and Sea Oats; E. Dogwood and Hillcrest; and Juniper Trail just past the first entrance to Food Lion.

My view:  We have lived here for 30 years and travel to Corolla & Duck on weekends on a regular basis.  We DO NOT make that left turn on Dogwood and go “the back way” to Duck/Corolla.  We have found it doesn’t save any time. You will get caught up in Southern Shores traffic and a very difficult time making a left hand turn onto NC 12 towards Duck.   If you don’t want to get caught in beach traffic, I would shoot to get on the beach by 9:00am, get to your destination, grab a cup of coffee, take the kids to the beach for the day, go to lunch, etc.    This is how we do it!

Watch Chef Wes from Red Skye Café & NC Coast Restaurants in Duck make the most delicious Soft-Shell Crabs in the world.
